Kazakhstan is set to connect
25,000 kilometers of roads to high-quality and stable internet by 2027. Over 60
billion tenge will be allocated from the state budget to install about 500
antenna-mast structures along the roads. Local authorities are currently
developing the design and estimate documentation, with construction scheduled
to commence next year. The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and
Aerospace Industry has stated that providing internet access to highways will
serve as the basis for improving logistics and traffic flow management.
«Domestic mobile operators are expected to
establish specialized base stations in the future. Overall, the
companies are set to invest nearly 30 billion tenge in the necessary
equipment,» said Yerzhan Meiramov, committee chairman at the Kazakh Ministry of
Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry.
The ministry added that around 2,000 secondary
education institutions in remote rural areas will be connected to satellite internet
via Starlink technology. Notably, this global satellite system for
wireless and high-speed internet is also planned to be used in other sectors of
the economy.
«The pilot project has been expanded to include
about 70 subscriber terminals provided to the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency
Situations. Additionally, mobile operators are expected to employ the
Starlink satellite internet network to enhance the transportation sector.
Overall, this technology can be used across all industries. For instance, this
applies to terminals designed specifically for railways or road transport,» Meiramov
added.
The ministry is also working to eliminate «blind
spots». In 2023, 67 such locations were identified in the capital, with
52 already eliminated. Taking into account new territories, this work will be
carried out in all regions of Kazakhstan.
