Kazakhstan strengthens economic cooperation with CIS countries

Kazakhstan’s trade turnover with the CIS countries is growing; last year it reached $37.5 billion. Overall, the GDP of the CIS countries increased by 4.5%. As Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov stated at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government in Dushanbe, the country is interested in further developing the Organization and expanding its potential. Electronic commerce offers great opportunities. In Kazakhstan, the volume of e-commerce exceeded $6 billion last year. To enhance cooperation, it is necessary to develop infrastructure and improve consumer protection mechanisms, according to Bektenov. The digital sphere also holds great potential for partnership, as does the transit and transport sector, along with heavy and light industries.
