Kazakhstan aims to position itself as a leading trade and
logistics hub in Eurasia, providing businesses with direct access to the 1.5
billion-strong market of the EAEU, Central Asia, and China. President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized this today at the Kazakhstan-Slovenia Business
Forum, where he outlined opportunities for foreign investors. With a rapidly
growing economy, Kazakhstan is one of the region’s major players and has
significant potential as a logistics center. Last year, cargo transportation
through the country reached a record 514 billion ton-kilometers. Currently,
Kazakhstan facilitates 90% of overland trade between Europe and China.
«We are actively developing major international corridors,
including the Middle Corridor and the North-South corridor. Our seaports in
Aktau and Kuryk are instrumental in facilitating cargo transit across the
Caspian Sea, having reached a record of 4.5 million tonnes of cargo transported
last year alone. We look forward to sharing expertise and deepening cooperation
with the port of Koper, as we know the largest port in Slovenia, to strengthen
connectivity and trade facilitation,» Tokayev said.
The Head of State identified industrial and energy
cooperation as a promising area for bilateral relations. There are significant
opportunities in this sector, particularly given that nearly 70% of Kazakh oil
is exported to EU countries. Additionally, the country produces 19 rare earth
elements. Another promising sector for partnership is green energy.
Furthermore, President Tokayev encouraged Slovenian partners to collaborate on
joint investment projects in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and the IT sector.
