In Kazakhstan, all international
road corridors will be modernized by 2030. The reconstruction of 8,000
kilometers of roads is slated for completion by 2029. This year, construction
and installation work covers 10,700 kilometers of roads, and the same pace will
be maintained next year, as announced by Kazakh Minister of Transport Marat
Karabayev during the Government's meeting. He noted that extensive work is
being carried out to reform the entire road industry. Thus, by the end of this
year, international FIDIC principles and corresponding rules are set to be
implemented across all projects. Additionally, starting next year, there are
plans for the phased commencement of the construction of priority projects
spanning 4,700 kilometers, Karabayev added. To this end, funding from both
domestic and external sources will be utilized. According to the minister, an
annual funding of 60 billion tenge is necessary for the maintenance of the
country's roads. In order to alleviate the budgetary burden, Kazakhstan is
gradually introducing toll sections on roads.
“As of today, the toll system has
been implemented on 3,200 kilometers of roads, generating collections totaling
26.5 billion tenge over 11 months. Next year, we plan to introduce tolls on an
additional 1,200 kilometers of roads. Overall, by 2029, the toll system will be
gradually implemented on 11,000 kilometers of roads as reconstruction works are
completed. It is worth noting that toll rates for road sections in Kazakhstan
are the lowest compared to foreign countries,” Karabayev said.
