Kazakhstan set to increase pharmaceutical production threefold in 2025

Kazakhstan’s domestic pharmaceutical production is on the rise. Since the beginning of the year, it has grown 18 percent up to 124 billion tenge. According to the Ministry of Health, 47 long-term contracts have been signed to support local manufacturers in supplying drugs, with plans to finalize 79 more agreements next year. By 2025, production is expected to triple. Currently, three laboratories in Kazakhstan conduct quality and safety examinations of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Additionally, a pilot project launched this year allows electronic prescriptions via the Social Wallet system, with one in four prescriptions now processed digitally. Another recent innovation in Kazakhstan’s pharmaceutical market is the introduction of a labeling and traceability system, which has processed over 68 million drug packages, 28.5 million of which are now in circulation.

«Labeling and traceability of medicines have recently been implemented. This enables tracking the movement of medicines from manufacturer to patient via barcodes. Previously, this supply chain was not visible, allowing counterfeit and low-quality medicines to reach pharmacies. Moreover, now we will clearly see the movement of medicines in hospitals and clinics, which eliminates the illegal circulation of free medicines. Proper control in this area is ensured,» said Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
