Kazakhstan, Serbia strengthen economic dialogue

Kazakhstan and Serbia are strengthening economic cooperation, with a focus on investment and joint projects. Promising areas for effective bilateral partnership include agriculture and agricultural processing, digitalization, and AI technologies. Representatives of the business communities discussed these issues at the Kazakhstan–Serbia Business Forum and the first meeting of the Business Council of the two countries. The parties signed 10 agreements emphasizing that many other areas also hold strong potential for cooperation.

«A business agreement has been concluded between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia and the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan. Companies operating in the agro-industrial sector have signed an agreement as well. Overall, around 10 agreements have been signed covering military-technical cooperation, IT, construction, and other areas. Investments from Serbian companies in Kazakhstan’s economy are also on the rise,» said Chairman of Kazakhstan’s Chamber of International Commerce Murat Karimsakov.

One of the key events was the signing of three memorandums of cooperation between the innovation cluster Astana Hub and Serbia’s Center for Digital Transformation, the SEE UP accelerator and the Belgrade Science and Technology Park. The agreements aim to develop joint IT projects, support startups, and facilitate the exchange of expertise between the technological ecosystems of the two countries. Overall, more than 60 Serbian companies are currently operating in Kazakhstan’s market, active in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, construction, energy, mechanical engineering, and the agro-industrial sector.

«The Free Trade Agreement between our countries provides a solid institutional foundation. According to our data, 44 enterprises with Kazakh capital are currently registered in Serbia, along with 73 individual entrepreneurs who are citizens of Kazakhstan. While this number remains modest, our goal is to increase it, as well as to expand the presence of Serbian entrepreneurs in Kazakhstan,» said Serbian Minister for Development of International Economic Cooperation Nenad Popović.

Last year, mutual trade between the two countries grew by 8%, reaching nearly $108 million. Overall, the partnership is strategic: Kazakhstan provides access to the Central Asian market, while Serbia offers access to European infrastructure and logistics capabilities.

«At the political level, there are no misunderstandings or unresolved issues between our countries, which is reflected in our economic cooperation. We hope that the number of Serbian entrepreneurs working with Kazakhstan will continue to grow, and that our partnership will reach a new level. Our aim is not merely to exchange goods, but to keep pace with the times and jointly develop new products,» said Vice President of Serbia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry for International Cooperation and Development Mihailo Vesović.
