The 24th summit of the Council of
Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is taking place
in Astana under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev
welcomed the distinguished guests at the Palace of Independence. Afterwards,
the participants proceeded to the conference hall. In his opening remarks,
President Tokayev stated that the SCO has become a significant mechanism within
the international relations system and makes a substantial contribution to
ensuring sustainable growth. Through fruitful cooperation in politics,
security, economy, and culture, the member countries are setting the
development trajectory for the entire Eurasian continent. It is worth noting
that this year’s summit is dedicated to the theme «Strengthening Multilateral
Dialogue - Striving for Sustainable Peace and Development». Heads of state and
government from 16 countries, along with leaders of international
organizations, have gathered in Astana to discuss several globally important
issues. The event is being covered by over 700 foreign and more than 200 Kazakh
journalists.
