Kazakhstan’s transport sector grew by nearly 23% in the
first half of the year. Notably, statistics indicate steady growth across all
industry segments and regions of the country. Road, pipeline, and rail
transport all contributed to this increase. Passenger traffic reached 928
million people, while cargo volumes exceeded 550 million tonnes. Over the past
five years, total transit volumes have risen by 50%, with a sixfold increase
along the Trans-Caspian route. Last year alone, shipments from China to Europe
grew by 62%, reaching 4.5 million tonnes. Currently, under the President’s
directive, large-scale work is underway to expand border capacity with China.
«This year, we will complete the second track of the Dostyk–Moiynty
railway line, the bypass around Almaty. Next year, we will focus on developing
the Darbaza–Maktaaral section. The Moiynty–Kyzylzhar and Bakhty–Ayagoz routes –
as I mentioned earlier – are also part of this plan. These projects will enable
us to increase our railway throughput capacity to 10 million tonnes in the near
future - a 4.5-fold increase, as I noted today. This is large-scale undertaking
that requires significant investment, but we are fully committed, knowing that
we must not lose the competitive advantage we currently hold,» said Kazakh
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
Special attention has been given to digitalization. The
introduction of the Digital Trade Corridor on the TEZ Customs platform has
reduced the processing time for transit declarations from three hours to just
30 minutes, increasing the speed and efficiency of cargo clearance. Port
infrastructure is also being developed. In June of this year, a container hub -
a key link in the Trans-Caspian route - began operations at the Aktau port.
