Kazakhstan’s manufacturing industry should gain a new
boost. The priority is the production of high value-added goods that are
competitive both in domestic and international markets. In his
state-of-the-nation address, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that over
the past five years the sector’s gross value added has doubled, reaching almost
17 trillion tenge. According to the Head of State, this sector is becoming a
key driver of Kazakhstan’s economic growth. Last year alone, more than 160 new
production facilities were put into operation across the country, creating
12,000 jobs. The President stressed the importance of accelerating economic
diversification and highlighted the need to establish modern high-tech
enterprises and strengthen the country’s export potential.
«Regarding the industrial sector, the
Head of State noted that the share of manufacturing in the economy stands at
12.4%, while the mining and metallurgical industry accounts for 8%. These
sectors are attractive to investors and form the backbone of our country’s
economy. Therefore, launching a number of high- and medium-value-added processing
projects, including in hydrocarbon processing, is highly relevant,» noted Nurtugan
Uralbayev, Deputy Director of the Sustainable Development Goals Secretariat at
the Economic Research Institute.
