Kazakhstan’s COVID-19 infection rate declines

COVID-19 infection rate in Kazakhstan is declining, the country’s Health Minister Alexey Tsoy stated at a government meeting. The epidemiological situation in the country has stabilized, he said. The coronavirus reproductive rate decreased to one. The hospital beds are currently occupied by 41 percent, while intensive care beds by 28 percent.

“Weekly infection rates declined from 46 percent at the end of March to 8 percent during the past week. The increase in the number of deaths in the last week dropped from 30 percent to 8 percent compared to the previous week. The situation is relatively stable. The regions continue to adjust and introduce restrictions in response to the epidemiological situation,” said Alexey Tsoy.

Tsoy said that according to the world ranking, Kazakhstan is in 108 place out of 221 in terms of COVID-19 infection rate, and in 107 place in terms of death rate. In his turn, Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin reminded that the most important task now is the overall coverage of Kazakh citizens with coronavirus vaccination.

“In April, coronavirus vaccinations were expected to reach 20 percent of the population. It is necessary to adhere to the vaccination plan and the schedule of the delivery of vaccines to the regions. At the same time, it is important that citizens strictly follow the mask wearing rules, social distancing and avoiding crowds,” Mamin noted.

In addition, Mamin instructed to expand the implementation of the ‘Ashyq’ application in the business environment. This will enable entrepreneurs to increase their activity under the imposed restrictions. Theatres, cinemas, cafes, restaurants, shopping and entertainment centers, and sports facilities can start working under this project. As of April 27, the total number of participating businesses in the ‘Ashyq’ application program amounts to 1,658, and the number of users exceeds 378,000.
