Kazakhstan launches online broadcast of flood control measures in regions

An online broadcast from the sites of flood control measures has been launched in Kazakhstan. Now, every citizen has access to live coverage of flood preparation efforts and on-site conditions via the government website gov.kz. The video surveillance system covers three cities – Atyrau, Oral, and Kostanai. It enables monitoring of the dam and embankment construction process, facilitating prompt response, as noted by the Kazakh Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry. The broadcast currently utilizes 22 cameras in Atyrau city and the Atyrau region, as well as six cameras in Oral and Kostanai. Their number can be increased if necessary. Additionally, geodesy headquarters have been established in the regions.

“Specialists are promptly conducting geodetic measurements at eight hydrological stations in the West Kazakhstan and Atyrau regions, as well as coordinating six hydrological stations on the Irtysh River in the Pavlodar region. These measurements are being conducted on highway embankments, the height of the Zhaiyk River dam, protective embankments, and structures installed for riverbank protection in flood-prone areas. Based on the results of these activities, critical points and unprotected areas have been identified, requiring reinforcement and the installation of additional protective embankments,” said Albina Aten, Spokesperson for the Kazakh Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry.
