Kazakhstan ranked fourth out of
47 leading countries in implementing information and communication technologies
in the judicial system, according to the 2023 report by the European Commission
for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ). Estonia, Latvia, and Hungary took the
top three spots in the ranking. It is noteworthy that digital technologies and
artificial intelligence are widely adopted in Kazakhstan’s judiciary, enabling
citizens to remotely file lawsuits and other procedural documents, as well as make
a power of attorney. Moreover, the digital module called ‘Assistance to judges’
has created new opportunities for judicial services, facilitating simplified
judicial proceedings in criminal, civil, or administrative cases.
“This year’s plans include adoption
of solutions regarding actions for mediator judges to resolve disputes amicably
pending the court’s decision. These aspects will be further modified and
improved. We are constantly moving forward, developing, and applying artificial
intelligence. We have many plans and will keep the public informed as we work
on these initiatives,” said Abai Rakhmetulin, judge at Kazakhstan’s Supreme
Court.
