Eight-year-old Kazakh schoolgirls receive award in Silicon Valley

Eight-year-old Kazakh girls have become prize winners at the Technovation Girls Global Summit 2024 in Silicon Valley. Young inventors Aisha Yesset and Eva Zhurkina received the award in the Technical Prize category for beginners for their development of a unique mobile application called IHear. It is designed to assist children with cochlear implants in developing speech and communication skills. The application was created using artificial intelligence technology and offers personalized exercises to improve cognitive skills in children.

«We chose this idea because I have a friend named Ailin and she was born hearing-impaired, she underwent surgery on both ears to install cochlear implants and we want to help her,» shared inventor Aisha Yesset.

«We also wanted to get to know other teams in the finals and learn about their applications. We would like to distribute it through licensed schools, various websites, Instagram, and YouTube,» said inventor Eva Zhurkina.

The schoolgirls were the youngest among nearly 11,000 participants from 69 countries. This year, a total of 3,200 technological solutions for social issues were presented in the educational program. Kazakhstan showcased excellent results.

«This season has been record-breaking for Kazakhstan with 2,345 girls registered, and 606 of them uploaded their mobile application projects that address social issues, including those in our country.  A total of 18 teams made it to the semi-finals, and one team of eight-year-old girls received a special award, winning in the Technical Prize category for the best technological solution in developing this application. Technovation Girls is a global volunteer program that offers free participation. It is designed for girls from eight to 18 and helps them become entrepreneurs and leaders while developing teamwork skills,» noted marketing specialist Makhabbat Uskenbayeva, Technovation Girls Kazakhstan.
