Rail freight volumes in Kazakhstan are expected to grow to 327 million tonnes in 2026. At the same time, transit shipments are projected to maintain a stable annual growth rate of 20%. Strategic projects are set to be completed this year, including construction on the Kyzylzhar-Moiynty and Darbaza-Maktaaral sections. Modern train control systems will be implemented, which will increase the capacity of the railways. Over 1,500 km of tracks are also scheduled for repair this year. To boost cargo shipments along the Trans-Caspian route, the commercial fleet will be supplemented with four ferries. Overall, container traffic is expected to increase to 90,000 in 2026.
«The delivery of 233
locomotives, over 1,400 freight cars, and 191 modern passenger cars is planned.
International transport corridors are also being actively developed, including
the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and the North–South Corridor.
As part of efforts to increase the capacity of the Trans-Caspian route,
projects are underway to modernize port infrastructure,» noted Kazakh Vice Minister of Transport Zhanibek Taizhanov.
