Kazakhstan marks Defender of Fatherland Day

Today, Kazakhstan celebrates Defender of the Fatherland Day. On May 7, 1992, a presidential decree was signed to establish the national Armed Forces. In 2012, this day was officially declared a public holiday. The country honors military personnel, veterans, and all those who contribute to national defense and stand guard over the nation’s independence, peace, and security. This year, a large-scale military parade was held in Astana to mark both Defender of the Fatherland Day and the 80th anniversary of Victory.

Kazakhstan’s military structure includes ground forces, air defense forces, and naval forces. There are also specially trained airmobile units. Women also serve in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan.
