Kazakh film with international acclaim set to release in theaters

The movie «Dala Kaskyry» (Steppenwolf) by Kazakh filmmaker Adilkhan Yerzhanov is set to be released in domestic theaters. A preview screening of the film, which has already garnered enthusiastic responses worldwide, was held in Astana. The movie won the grand prize at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) and received high marks from the jury at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Canada, where Berik Aitzhanov and Anna Starchenko were recognized as the best actors for their lead roles. The film had previously won the prize of the French Critics’ Association and has also sparked interest among Korean film enthusiasts. The movie tells the story of a woman who hires a former investigator to find her son, who disappeared during unrest in a small town. Experts highlight that the unique approach and profound sincerity of Kazakh filmmakers help promote their films on the international stage.

«European cinema has long been familiar with Kazakh filmmakers. Domestic films have been featured at European and international festivals for many years. Adilkhan Yerzhanov has been making films for over a decade, and his works have been regularly presented at international film festivals,» said the film producer Aliya Mendygozhina.
