Kazakhstan launches modernized water pipeline ‘Astrakhan-Mangyshlak’

The modernized main water pipeline, ‘Astrakhan-Mangyshlak’, was launched in the Atyrau region. This strategically important project for the social and industrial development of the western region was implemented on the instructions of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The country’s Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov officially inaugurated the facility via video link. The main water pipeline is set to provide an additional 60,000 cubic meters of water for the populations, enterprises and agriculture of both Atyrau and Mangystau regions. Overall, the throughput capacity of the Astrakhan-Mangyshlak water pipeline has increased from 110,000 to 170,000 cubic meters. It is worth noting that this is just one of several large-scale projects underway in the region. A desalination plant with a daily capacity of 50,000 cubic meters is also currently under construction. A main water pipeline connecting it to Zhanaozen city is part of this development. Furthermore, the reconstruction of the Caspian desalination plant is ongoing, with expectations of doubling its capacity to 40,000 cubic meters. The government has reiterated its commitment to establishing a robust framework for sustainable water supply for both the population and industries in the country by 2026.
