Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan aim to
boost their bilateral trade turnover to $2 billion. Kazakhstan is ready to
expand its exports to the neighboring country across 195 commodity items by a
total of $260 million. The food, industrial, petrochemical, construction, and
pharmaceutical sectors have the greatest potential. The development of trade
and economic cooperation, as well as collaboration in the spheres of education,
culture, and tourism, were discussed during a meeting between Kazakh Prime
Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov in Bishkek.
Preparations for the upcoming visit of the Kyrgyz leader to Astana were also
discussed at the governmental level. The parties expressed readiness to
increase mutual agricultural supplies and launch joint projects. Bektenov
emphasized the importance of approving the operation modes of interstate water
management facilities for the 2024 growing season. During a meeting between the
Prime Ministers of the two countries, the parties noted the positive dynamics
of work to increase the capacity of the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border, as well as the
attractiveness of transit for freight carriers.
“The heads of state pay special
attention to developing and deepening the allied partnership between our
countries. Our main goal is the practical and effective implementation of the
tasks set at a high level. I am confident that this year, our cooperation will
be marked by new positive results both in bilateral format and within
integration associations. Overall, the Kazakh Government is ready to jointly
participate in all initiatives that serve our common interests,” said Bektenov.
