Kazakhstan, Iran set to bring mutual trade turnover to $3 billion

Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref discussed deepening trade and economic relations, as well as investment cooperation during the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting in Almaty. Both sides noted the dynamic growth of bilateral relations in all areas. Last year, trade turnover between the countries increased to nearly $300 million. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan aims to expand the range and increase export volumes of 60 types of goods worth over $130 million. In particular, the country is ready to meet the demand of the Iranian market for wheat, barley and oilseeds. The two countries also plan to boost cargo transportation along the North-South international corridor and enhance infrastructure. Discussions at the meeting also included modernizing the terminals of the Kazakh and Iranian ports – Aktau, Kuryk, Anzali, and Amirabad.

«Bilateral relations demonstrate high dynamics in all areas. As is known, during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to Tehran, significant agreements were reached between the two countries. Our main goal as governments of the two countries is to fully implement the tasks defined by the heads of state and raise Kazakh-Iranian cooperation to a qualitatively new level,» Bektenov said.
