Kazakhstan and Finland signed 15
documents covering a wide range of bilateral cooperation during Finnish President Alexander
Stubb’s official visit to the country.
The agreements provide for the development of partnerships in the areas of environment, water resources management, science,
energy, and tourism. These areas were the main topics of the talks between
Stubb and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the Akorda residence. Tokayev emphasized that the visit will give new
impetus to strengthening bilateral relations.
«We
have excellent traditions of mutual friendship and cooperation. We have no
problems with it, but anyway, there are many untapped opportunities in our
investment cooperation and trade. And
also we enjoy very good humanitarian cooperation,» the Head of State said.
In turn, Stubb noted that the
countries have great potential for cooperation in other areas as well.
«One is our bilateral relations and our business
relations. I have a big business delegation with me from Finland, over 20 major
companies. And of course secondly, we will be speaking about foreign policy and
security matters because I think we have lots of mutual interests and we are
trying to find solutions to complicated situations,» Stubb stated.
The talks continued in an expanded format with the participation of
delegations from both countries. Tokayev stressed that Finland is Kazakhstan’s key trading partner in Northern Europe and the European
Union. The President encouraged Finnish companies to more actively use Kazakhstan’s investment
opportunities to enter the vast Central Asian market.
«We here in Kazakhstan highly value our friendship with Finland and we are ready to go ahead with implementing existing agreements as well as launching new avenues of our mutual cooperation,» Tokayev said.
Following the talks, the leaders of Kazakhstan and Finland issued a joint statement. The document outlined agreements
to expand cooperation in the economic, trade, and investment sectors, as well
as to develop collaboration in higher education, science, and research. The
Presidents reaffirmed their shared commitment to closer partnership and
peacekeeping cooperation.
