Kazakhstan has become a new member of the
United Nations (UN) Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND). During the elections at
the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) meeting in New York, Kazakhstan
received the majority of the votes. The country’s election reflects the
international community’s acknowledgment of its proactive stance against drug
trafficking, supported by a comprehensive anti-drug policy focused on
prevention, rehabilitation, border control, and law enforcement. As a CND
member, Kazakhstan will represent the interests of the Asia-Pacific Regional
Group until 2029.
«As part of the CND, Kazakhstan will
directly participate in shaping and voting on relevant UN resolutions, initiate
projects focused on drug demand reduction and prevention, healthcare, and human
rights, and promote its national and regional priorities. Most importantly,
Kazakhstan, as a CND member, will not remain on the sidelines when it comes to
making global anti-drug decisions,» said Kairat Aman, deputy head of the
international security department at the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.
