The Kazakh Ministry of Tourism
and Sports together with domestic tour operators have compiled a list of the
top five most popular dishes among foreign visitors. A well-deserved first
place went to besbarmak, boiled meat mixed with dough. The next is a puffy
fried bread named bauyrsak. Both of the abovementioned dishes have unique
recipes that are specific to each region of the country. Shi bauyrsak, one of
the flour-based product varieties, is
popular among tourists as a souvenir. A horse meat sausage named kazy ranks
third, followed by zhent, a dessert made of millet, sugar, butter, cottage
cheese, poppy seed, and sometimes with raisins. The fifth place is given to kyzyl
irimshіk, another national sweet made of cottage cheese, which citizens call
Kazakh Raffaello. Statistics show that the connoisseurs of the Kazakh cuisine mostly
come from Europe and the CIS countries.
