Kazakhstan, China sign 8 documents in energy sector

Kazakhstan and China are taking their technological partnership to a qualitatively new level. They are set to cooperate in this area with a focus on comprehensive and innovative solutions. In the near future, the countries plan to strengthen bilateral cooperation in digital transformation of the energy industry and cybersecurity. A number of strategic agreements were signed on the sidelines of the first Power Central Asia+China Regional Energy Forum in Astana. During the event, special attention was paid to strengthening cooperation in green energy. Currently, more than 30 renewable energy projects are being implemented in Kazakhstan with Chinese investment, totaling a combined capacity of 1,700 megawatts.

«The agreement is designed to develop a long-term strategic partnership. We supply advanced equipment to the global green energy industry, and we have been collaborating with Kazakhstan in this sector for several years. The new agreements will enable us to deepen our cooperation in localizing production, establishing a research center, and launching a decarbonization fund. Our main focus is on developing renewable energy sources in your country,» said Deputy General Manager of PowerChina Qifeng Ju.

A total of eight documents were signed at the forum. Among them is an agreement on technological partnership for the production of deep processing products. Another document provides for the joint development of a technical justification for a coal chemical plant project with a production capacity of up to two billion cubic meters of gas. Under another agreement, a local oil refinery will be modernized.

«We have agreed to double the Shymkent oil refinery’s output to 12 million tons per year. This is the margin of safety that will provide confidence for years to come. We continue to develop our gas potential. The agreement with our partners QazaqGaz and CNPC on the Severny-1 project will both supply energy to our enterprises and create new export opportunities,» noted Kazakh Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov.
