The
Kazakh film «Bauryna Salu» (Adoption) by Askhat Kuchinchirekov has been submitted
for an Oscar nomination. The movie received the highest prize at the national Tulpar
awards and was recommended to the Oscar Committee to represent the country in
the International Feature Film category. It bears noting that bauryna salu is a
Kazakh tradition where young parents give their firstborn child to older
relatives for upbringing. The film tells a story of a boy raised by his
grandmother. The movie's world premiere took place last autumn at a film
festival in Spain. Additionally, in 2023, it won the Asia Pacific Screen
Awards, also known as the Asian Oscars.
