Kazakhstan, Belarus strengthen strategic cooperation

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin. During the meeting at the Akorda residence, the parties discussed prospects for bilateral trade and economic cooperation, industrial collaboration, and cultural and humanitarian ties. The Head of State emphasized that the Belarusian Prime Minister’s first official visit to Astana confirms the special nature of the strategic partnership between the two countries and their firm commitment to its further development.

«I consider this visit very important, given the level of cooperation between our countries and, of course, the substance of these relations. As for trade between our nations, it is developing successfully, amounting to around $900 million to $1 billion. As far as I know, Kazakhstan is Belarus’s second-largest trading partner. We are committed to the most constructive cooperation with tangible results, as we are interested in ensuring the continued successful development of our partnership,» Tokayev noted.

For his part, Alexander Turchin assured President Tokayev of his commitment to maintaining the high pace of mutually beneficial dialogue and coordinating the practical implementation of the tasks set by the heads of state.

«I would like to convey to you the warmest greetings from the President of our country, Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko. Just yesterday, I had a lengthy conversation with him, during which I briefed him in detail on our visit to Kazakhstan. In Belarus, we closely follow Kazakhstan’s development and take great pleasure in your successes. For a long time, your country has been demonstrating steady economic growth, and we cannot help but rejoice in the achievements you have attained to date,» Turchin said.

Notably, trade between Kazakhstan and Belarus has been steadily increasing. In the first eight months of this year alone, it grew by 20% compared to 2024. As part of industrial cooperation, 12 projects worth $204 million have already been implemented, while another three are currently in progress.
