Kazakhstan,
Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan are integrating their energy systems. The strategic
agreement was signed by the leaders of the three countries on the sidelines of
the COP 29 summit. The agreement involves joint efforts by the states aimed at
both the production and transmission of green energy. President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev noted that the event will mark a new page in the history of the shared
commitment to sustainable development.
«The document opens up
new opportunities for integrating our countries' energy systems, as well as for
creating reliable supply corridors for environmentally friendly energy to
European and other markets. Kazakhstan plays a crucial role here as a large
transit territory. The practical outcomes of this Agreement will contribute to
the development of the Middle Corridor as a «green bridge» connecting our
economies,» President Tokayev noted.
According to President
Tokayev, the cooperation will enhance the exchange of experience and advanced
technologies and contribute to strengthening the energy security of the
countries. In turn, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasized that
the agreement brings the strategic partnership between the three countries to a
new level. The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that it epitomizes
a joint contribution to the future.
«The regions of
Central Asia and the Caucasus act in synchrony on many issues, including the
development of green energy. We are aware of the ambitious plans and the
achievements already made in the creation of renewable energy sources in
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan,» President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev noted.
«I would like to particularly
emphasize the environmental significance of this project. The energy that will
be transmitted – wind and solar energy – will help mitigate the impact on the
climate. In this way, we support joint efforts to protect the climate under the
Paris Agreement and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,» President of
Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
In the presence of the
heads of state, the Energy Ministers of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and
Saudi Arabia signed the executive program on cooperation in the development and
transmission of green energy.
