Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan play a key role in the
development of the Trans-Caspian
International Transport Route, also known as the
Middle Corridor. The speed and volume of cargo transportation depend on these
countries. This opinion was expressed by Alisher Tastenov, chief expert at the
Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies (KazISS). According to him, both
nations have great potential for joint cooperation not only in the transport
sector but also in energy and agriculture. Kazakhstan
exports wheat, oil, and aluminum to Azerbaijan and intends to increase
its supplies of agricultural products. In turn, Azerbaijan
exports consumer goods and shipbuilding products to Kazakhstan. The expert noted that
the long-standing friendship between the two countries, based on economic,
cultural, and humanitarian ties, ensures strong and strategically significant cooperation
for the region.
«Today, both countries are focused on two key projects.
The first is a fiber-optic communication line that creates an alternative route
for integration into the global internet network. The second is the laying of a deep-water power cable. This project is set to connect the energy systems of Kazakhstan,
Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan. Essentially, it represents a green corridor for the
supply of renewable energy to the countries of the European Union,» noted Tastenov.
