Kazakh Mazhilis takes up four draft constitutional laws

The Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament, has taken up for consideration four draft laws aimed at implementing the new Constitution. Among them is the draft law On the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which defines the legal status of the Head of State and also provides for the introduction of the post of Vice President. MPs will also consider a document on the Kurultai and the status of its members. The draft law is aimed at regulating the activities of the unicameral Parliament. Another draft law concerns the status of the capital; it will enshrine the specifics of Astana’s governance, the powers of the maslikhat and mayor’s office, as well as issues of urban planning, transport, and migration. In addition, a draft Constitutional Law on the country’s administrative-territorial structure has been taken up for consideration.

«All of them will be considered by a commission composed of members from both chambers - the Mazhilis and the Senate. The first reading is planned for May, followed by the second reading. The drafts will be published on our website, and as usual, citizens will be able to submit their proposals to Parliamentnoted Snezhanna Imasheva, a member of the Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament.
