Almaty, Nur-Sultan, Kyzylorda, Turkistan and Shymkent - it is in these directions that the regular bus service with Uzbekistan has resumed. Previously, Uzbek tourists could only get to Kazakhstan by air because of the coronavirus pandemic. The land borders were closed for two years due to sanitary restrictions. Now both countries have got all Covid restrictions lifted for tourists.
“Of course, it was a very difficult time. It was hard for drivers. In fact, a lot of drivers quit. But we are slowly bringing them back. Little by little we are restoring everything, sorting things out. Thank God! Because the buses were idle for a very long time. We changed all the tires and batteries. But it’s, of course, a big expense,” said Khomijan Nasrulloyev, director of an Uzbek transportation company.
“Tickets can be purchased online or at bus stations. There are now buses running from Almaty to Tashkent and Nukus. We were able to get back on track again. I am very glad that the borders have reopened. Kazakh Health Ministry gave its permission for this,” added Azizbek Sabirov, director of a local transportation company.
