President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. The Head of State noted that Kazakhstan highly values its long-standing partnership with the Agency, as well as its contribution to strengthening nuclear safety and the peaceful use of atomic energy. He welcomed the signing of a Roadmap to deepen cooperation between Kazakhstan and the IAEA through 2036, as well as a number of documents in the fields of nuclear medicine and science. The President also reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s strong commitment to continuing its practical contribution to international efforts aimed at enhancing nuclear safety and strengthening trust between nations. The President also wished Rafael Grossi success in his candidacy for the post of UN Secretary-General.
«Your first visit to Kazakhstan back in April 2023 gave an important impetus to our joint work, and I think that everything is going well. We have no problems, and we speak the same language as far as nuclear disarmament is concerned. At the same time, we live through very bizarre times and we have a very strange situation on the globe. It means that we need to get together in order to have a common approach to what is happening in the world,» President Tokayev noted.
In turn, Rafael Grossi
highly praised Kazakhstan’s unwavering commitment to strengthening global
nuclear security and the non-proliferation regime. He also noted President Tokayev’s international
standing and his consistent role in promoting dialogue, nuclear security, and
multilateral cooperation. At the conclusion of the meeting, in recognition of
his significant contribution to strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan
and the IAEA, the Head of State
awarded Rafael Grossi the Order of Dostyk, First Class.
