The first Kazakh woman in history is preparing to travel to space.
Entrepreneur Danna Karagussova has joined the crew on a suborbital flight with
the American company Blue Origin. She will be accompanied by five participants
from other countries on a journey to the Kármán line, the internationally
recognized boundary of space. The 10-minute mission will mark the 15th crewed launch
of Blue Origin’s New Shepard program.
Meanwhile, four more Kazakh women may soon follow her
path. The SANA-1 research project, Kazakhstan’s first long-term crew isolation experiment
simulating spaceflight conditions, has launched at the National Space Center in
Astana. Yulia Bakirova, Assem Kuandyk, Darya Komarova, and Linara Zhadigerova
will spend 10 days in a specially designed ground module that replicates a
spacecraft environment. Their training program includes medical, educational,
and other experiments. According to experts, the project lays the foundation
for developing a national scientific base and training specialists for future
space missions.
