Kazakhstan is set to become more accessible to Chinese
travelers through the use of modern digital tools. The Kazakh Tourism national
company has signed a memorandum of cooperation with China’s tourism platform
Zowoyoo. This will help build a digital ecosystem to promote Kazakhstan’s
tourism products on Chinese online platforms. Residents of China will be able to
use the platform to plan their trips and access information about local hotels,
travel routes, and tour guide services.
«All content in Kazakhstan that may be of interest to
Chinese tourists needs to be digitized. That’s why we held the first meeting in
Almaty and the second one here in Astana. We plan to continue in Shymkent,
Turkistan, Aktau, Oskemen, and other cities. At the same time, their focus extends
beyond these cities and beyond Kazakhstan. One could say that the office opened
in Almaty will work on digitizing content across the entire Central Asian
region. In this regard, Kazakhstan will serve as a gateway to the region,» noted
Kazakh Tourism Acting Chairman Daniyel Serzhanuly.
The most popular destinations among Chinese travelers are
Almaty, Astana, and the Turkistan region. However, experts plan to redirect
tourist flows to other parts of the country such as the East Kazakhstan and
Mangystau regions, as well as Shymkent.
«Kazakhstan has enormous tourism potential. However, to make
more people aware of it, systematic efforts are required. Last year, videos
about Kazakhstan posted on Chinese platforms garnered around five billion
views. We plan to increase annual tourism revenues to $2-3 billion,» said Fu
Xuejia, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Kazakhstan Zowoyoo Technology.
In recent years, Kazakhstan and China have taken a number of
measures to enhance cooperation in this area, resulting in a significant
increase in tourist flow. In 2023, the number of Chinese travelers to the
country reached 370,000, while in 2024, this figure exceeded 655,000. This
year, Kazakhstan expects up to one million tourists from China.
