Kazakh surgical oncologists develop breast reconstruction method after surgery

Surgical oncologists in Astana have developed an innovative method for removing breast tumors that preserves the patient’s appearance and accelerates the recovery process. The breakthrough relies on implants created by domestic scientists. The method is currently undergoing clinical trials. Since the beginning of the year, over 30 such operations have been performed at the oncology center, with no complications reported.

«I had surgery, and now everything is fine. I feel good both physically and emotionally. I just want to say how incredibly grateful I am, I’m about to cry. Everything turned out better than I expected. We’ll continue with consultations, monitoring, and necessary examinations,» shared patient Nadezhda.

Immediately following tumor removal, breast reconstruction is performed. The use of implants allows for the reshaping of the breast, restoring its form and improving both the physical and emotional well-being of the patient, specialists note.

«In addition to performing breast reconstruction, one of the pressing issues we address is the development of lymphedema, also known as elephantiasis. This occurs when the arm on the side of the surgery begins to swell due to the removal of a large number of lymph nodes. We perform preventive lymphovenous anastomoses, which significantly reduce the risk of developing secondary lymphedema, bringing it almost to zero,» said Baurzhan Anapiya, Senior Resident of the National Research Oncology Center.
