Kazakh school student creates ethnocomic about Kazhymukan Munaitpassov

A Kazakh school student has created an ethnographic comic about Kazhymukan Munaitpassov. Before embarking on the work, Ramazan Sugirbai studied numerous materials about the great Kazakh school student. It took him a month and a half to write and illustrate the comic book. The artist dreams of popularizing the lives and achievements of Kazakh batyrs and wrestlers through his illustrated stories.

«Creating the comic took a month and a half. The most difficult part was not drawing the characters but the background, such as mountains or clouds, which had to look realistic. I used to do wrestling, so this theme is close to me,» Sugirbai said.

The comic book about Kazhymukan Munaitpassov comprises 15 pages. So far, 200 copies have been published and donated them to preschool centers and kindergartens.

«To date, Kazakh children mostly read foreign comics. However, it’s important to address our own concerns. The government is now providing support and hosting competitions aimed at solving environmental issues. Of course, we should foster environmental awareness among our children, including through such publications,» said Baktygul Myrzabekova, deputy director of the school-gymnasium
