Kazakhstan is relying on the support of the U.S. in
establishing the UN Regional Centre on SDGs for Central Asia and Afghanistan in
Almaty. This was announced during the summit of Heads of State from the Central
Asian region and the U.S. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated
in the summit during his visit to New York and spoke following US President Joe
Biden. The forum’s agenda encompassed discussions on joint efforts to further
enhance the sovereignty, stability and prosperity of Central Asia through the
C5+1 partnership across various sectors. Leaders from participating countries
discussed the prospects for further development of strategic partnership,
political dialogue, trade, economic, investment and humanitarian cooperation,
as well as the issues of preserving peace and stability in Eurasia. Particular
emphasis was placed on economic cooperation and opportunities for U.S.
companies in such areas as the development of critical minerals, renewable
energy sources, and manufacturing industry, among others. The Heads of State
also addressed opportunities for cooperation in addressing security concerns,
including terrorism, illegal migration, and drug trafficking.
