Today, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with representatives
of domestic businesses. The strategic goal outlined by the Head of State is to
strengthen the economy in order to maintain and enhance Kazakhstan’s leading
role in the region. This goal should become a central element of the national
idea. It is already clear that development is only possible through a change in
approach. Therefore, the country will need to undergo a comprehensive
transformation and adapt to new realities. In his speech, President Tokayev
highlighted the importance of establishing a productive partnership between the
government and businesses. He believes that the priorities for economic
development should include major infrastructure and industrial projects,
digitalization and artificial intelligence, as well as the advancement of
transport and logistics. At the same time, small and medium-sized businesses
will not be overlooked. Support for entrepreneurs will remain a continuous
focus for the government.
«At the same time, the focus should not only be on
industries traditionally attractive for investment but also on identifying new
areas of growth. Given the current geopolitical realities and global trade environment,
the transport and logistics sector holds enormous opportunities. The demand for
rail, road, and air transportation is rising. In fact, this sector is coming to
the forefront,» Tokayev noted.
One of the key priorities highlighted by the Head of State
is improving the business climate in the country. This includes ensuring that
businesses are legally protected from unwarranted inspections, strengthening
liability for unlawful interference in entrepreneurial activities, and
implementing a «prosecutor’s filter». In addition, President Tokayev instructed
the government further to study the value-added tax (VAT) rate issue. It should
be differentiated, and the decision on its upper limit must be made by the government
based on precise calculations, taking into account the opinions of experts,
entrepreneurs, and members of Parliament. Another important aspect of the
modernization of the economy is the involvement of banks, according to the Head
of State. In conclusion, President Tokayev thanked domestic businesses for
their social engagement and once again clearly stated his position: the state,
represented by the government and law enforcement agencies, should not hinder
the lawful activities of entrepreneurs.
