Kazakh President signs decree on measures to liberalize economy

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree ‘On Measures for Economic Liberalization’ aimed at ensuring entrepreneurial freedom through the development of competition, reducing the state’s participation in the economy, and lowering business costs. The decree outlines the establishment of a national privatization office within the Agency for Competition Protection and Development, tasked with determining state assets eligible for privatization and compiling a corresponding list. As part of the liberalization of opening and conducting business, entrepreneurs will have simplified and automated access to procedures for obtaining technical conditions and connecting to engineering networks. Another section of the decree involves measures aimed at protecting the rights and interests of businesses, including through the decriminalization of economic offenses. The implementation of the decree will give an additional impetus to reducing the share of the public sector in the economy and supporting private entrepreneurship.
