During his working visit to Qatar, Kazakh
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a series of important meetings, including
one with the owners of Power International Holding (PIH), Moutaz Al-Khayyat and
Ramez Al-Khayyat. This company is negotiating the construction of a
combined-cycle gas turbine plant in the Kyzylorda region and the development of
inter-regional power grids. Additionally, the leaders of the Qatari
conglomerate have expressed interest in joint artificial intelligence projects.
Currently, the company is involved in constructing major facilities in the
energy and telecommunications sectors. President Tokayev emphasized that these
projects would make a significant contribution to strengthening the country’s
energy security. He also reaffirmed the Kazakh government’s readiness to
provide favorable conditions for Qatari investors.
«In the gas sector, QazaqGaz is
constructing two gas pipelines and two gas processing plants. The first
pipeline, Aktobe-Kostanay, is scheduled to be operational in 2026. The second
pipeline, Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent, will also have its second string operational
in 2026. As for the gas processing plants, the first facility, with a capacity
of one billion cubic meters per year, is scheduled for commissioning in 2026.
The second plant, with a capacity of 2.5 billion cubic meters, is set to be
commissioned in 2029,» Samruk Kazyna CEO Nurlan Zhakupov said.
The Head of State also discussed prospects
for investment cooperation in renewable energy sources with Mohammed Nasser
Al-Hajri, Chairman of the Board of Nebras Power. President Tokayev commended
the role of the 300-megawatt Semipalatinsk Hydro Power Plant (HPP) in
strengthening the long-term strategic partnership between Astana and Doha.
Mohammed Nasser Al-Hajri briefed President Tokayev on the key stages of the
joint project’s implementation and emphasized Kazakhstan’s significant
potential in green energy.
The Head of State praised the Emir of
Qatar’s personal contribution to
strengthening bilateral relations, which have reached the level of a
strategic partnership. President Tokayev and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani reviewed the progress of projects in banking,
telecommunications, energy, agriculture, and healthcare. The President
expressed confidence that joint projects involving Qatari businesses would
contribute to the development of both countries. In turn, the Emir of Qatar
highlighted the long-term strategic nature of cooperation between Astana and
Doha, emphasizing that both governments are systematically working to implement
agreements reached at the highest level.
