President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting on the development of Astana. He noted that the capital is a city of dynamic solutions and rapid growth. Leading positions have been observed in areas such as investment, construction, and the development of small and medium-sized businesses. According to forecasts, Astana’s economy could exceed $30 billion in 2025. The Head of State emphasized that the capital should continue to develop and serve as an example for other regions. Astana has undergone significant transformation in recent years, and its beauty has been praised by all visitors, including Chinese President Xi Jinping.
«What does the Oxford Economics Global Cities Index 2025 show? The study covers 1,000 of the world’s largest cities, evaluating them across five categories: economy, human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance. Astana ranked 36th in Asia and 276th globally, outperforming well-known cities in the region. The city has significant potential, and we must continue moving forward,» said Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The Head of State emphasized that special attention should be given to the development of artificial intelligence and digital technologies. The Smart City project has been launched in Astana. An Operations Management Center will soon begin functioning, coordinating the work of both video surveillance cameras and city services. A Data Processing Center is also being built to support the platform’s operation. The capabilities of the digital infrastructure will be used by law enforcement agencies to maintain public safety. The President stressed that similar platforms should be implemented in all cities across the country.
«Further development of transport and logistics infrastructure is of great importance. The urban environment must have high-quality and convenient infrastructure. This year, a comprehensive program for the development of Astana’s transport system through 2035 was adopted. The share of public transport in total passenger traffic should be increased. The LRT project is extremely important, and its full launch should take place in the near future. I support further expansion of the LRT network, which will undoubtedly help reduce road traffic. The government must give priority to financing decisions,» the Head of State noted.
To increase
Astana’s transport and transit potential, the possibility of constructing a new
airport should also be considered, the Head of State emphasized. The
government, together with the city administration, has been tasked with
studying the issue and submitting concrete proposals. Meanwhile, the load on
urban networks -water supply, treatment facilities, and communications - is
increasing. The Head of State stressed that the fourth drinking water station
must be built within the established timeframe, and the construction of new
substations should be accelerated. New clinics and schools will also be opened
in the capital. In addition, the President instructed the creation of eco-parks
around Astana, as well as in other major cities across the country.
