Kazakh President comments on proposed parliamentary system reform

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with participants of the Peace and Future through Law international constitutional justice forum, including the President of the Venice Commission, the President of the Federal Supreme Court of the UAE,  the heads of the Conference of African Constitutional Jurisdictions, and the Constitutional Court of Mongolia. Tokayev discussed the key points of his state-of-the-nation address and commented on his proposed parliamentary system reform, aimed at further strengthening the political system. He emphasized that establishing a parliamentary republic is not on the agenda. The model of a strong president - influential parliament - accountable government remains in effect, and the proposal to hold a national referendum once again demonstrates this principle, ensuring that only consolidated decisions are made on matters concerning the country’s future. Foreign leaders of judicial and constitutional bodies praised Kazakhstan’s political reforms and highlighted the country’s active cooperation with the international community.
