The second Forum of Agricultural Workers was held in Astana, attended by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, agricultural producers, industry association representatives, investors, sector veterans, and students from specialized universities. Tokayev expressed his gratitude to farmers and livestock breeders, congratulating them on their professional holiday. He noted that Kazakhstan’s gross agricultural output has grown more than 2.5 times over the past decade, reaching 8.3 trillion tenge, and emphasized that this figure should be doubled by 2030. Kazakhstan currently ranks 32nd in the Global Food Security Index, and progress should continue. Tokayev called for fully harnessing the potential of the agricultural sector, especially as the government provides essential support to those working in it.
«Modern water-saving
technologies are being introduced in the agricultural sector, and the area of
water-intensive crops is being reduced, but this is only the beginning. Experts
believe it is possible to expand the use of water-saving technologies to one
million hectares within three years. The modernization of water infrastructure
should be accelerated by adopting digital solutions and ensuring strict
oversight at all stages of project implementation,» Tokayev said.
The Head of State also highlighted the potential of the livestock sector. The industry benefits from targeted financing mechanisms, including subsidies for pasture water supply, the construction of fattening facilities, and the acquisition of breeding livestock. Last year alone, over 60 billion tenge was allocated for these purposes. A business support plan for the livestock sector, to be adopted next year, will increase the national herd and guarantee Kazakhstan’s status as a major meat supplier in international markets. The President also addressed other issues, particularly emphasizing the importance of digitalizing agriculture.
«Many of our farmers have already begun actively adopting various technological innovations—such as smart farms, agro-drones, satellite technologies, and certain AI elements. However, it is still too early to speak of a systemic shift on a national scale. We need to move from isolated smart solutions to fully digital agricultural production. Using the e-APK platform, a unified agricultural data architecture must be built to enable comprehensive management of the sector,» Tokayev added.
The President also called for accelerating efforts to
attract foreign investors to the sector. To date, the government has compiled a
list of more than 200 investment projects worth four trillion tenge. Tokayev
further instructed that the Qazaq Organic Food brand be promoted on
international markets. Overall, Kazakhstan exports agricultural products worth
more than $5 billion to 70 countries worldwide. Today, 30 industry workers
received state awards from the Head of State.
