Kazakh President and German Federal Chancellor discuss cooperation prospects

During Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to Germany, the two countries have reached an agreement to bolster implementation of joint projects in such promising industries as petrochemistry, metallurgy, transport, and logistics. Also, President Tokayev and Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz agreed to intensify cooperation in trade, economy, investment, green energy, and other sectors. In addition, the Kazakh President proposed to create a raw materials consortium, noting Kazakhstan’s readiness to provide all necessary conditions for a greater presence of German businesses in the domestic market.

“Germany is Kazakhstan’s main partner in Europe. Therefore, our relations are of a strategic nature, particularly in trade, economic and investment spheres. I highly appreciate the outcomes of the past negotiations, which reaffirmed our mutual commitment to fortify Kazakh-German relations. We stated that amid current conditions, Kazakhstan and Germany should take the most pragmatic approach in delivering new investment projects to ensure the sustainable development of our countries. We have the political determination and enormous economic potential to achieve these goals,” Tokayev said.

President Tokayev also lauded the agreements Kazakhstan has reached with leading European companies.

“I welcome the signing of important commercial agreements with such key partners as Siemens Energy, Linde and others prior to our meeting today. These agreements are intended to give a serious impetus to the further strengthening of economic ties between our countries,” he shared.

Development of cooperation in the energy sector is one of the priorities that the Head of State mentioned in his speech. President Tokayev also expressed readiness to collaborate on enhancing the transit capacity of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, and connecting it to the Trans-European Transport Network and the Global Gateway initiative. There are also broad prospects for partnership in the agro-industrial sector, finance, innovation, and digitalization.
