Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas
Bektenov chaired an off-site meeting of the National headquarters for
coordination of flood control measures and elimination of their consequences in
Atyrau. The meeting was held via videoconference, with the participation of
regional governors and ministers. More than 70,000 people have been evacuated
from emergency zones, while over 60,000 heads of livestock have been relocated
to safe areas. In total, over 12,000 people, along with more than 800 units of
equipment and 400 water pumping and flotation devices, are engaged in emergency
and rescue operations. Bektenov instructed the Health Ministry to strengthen
control over the sanitary and epidemiological situation in disaster areas, the Ministry of Agriculture
to prevent the deterioration of the epizootic situation, and local authorities
to ensure that the population in evacuation centers is provided with all necessary
assistance. The snow-covered area in the country currently amounts to 15
percent. The flood situation remains under constant control of the
headquarters.
“I instruct to strengthen control
and prevent unjustified price increases for food products. Any instances should
be promptly addressed. Work has begun on compensating for damages and providing
relief payments in a number of regions. This process must be conducted with
utmost transparency, without bureaucracy, and swiftly. No one should be left
without assistance. Governors need to keep the situation under special control,”
Bektenov said.
