Kazakh peacekeepers: Guardians of peace and security

Lieutenant Colonel Zhiger Aipov, the first recipient of the First Class Aibyn Order named after Sagadat Nurmagambetov, participated in the military parade in Astana. He received this prestigious award from the President in recognition of his courage and dedication during a United Nations (UN) mission on the Golan Heights. Last year, Kazakhstan independently deployed its own contingent of 139 peacekeepers for the first time.

«In March 2024, I was appointed commander of Kazakhstan's first peacekeeping contingent and deployed to the Golan Heights to carry out a mission. Our unit successfully completed all assigned tasks. We evacuated 24 UN personnel to a safe location and also found and neutralized unexploded ordnance. In total, we accomplished more than 600 tasks,» said Zhiger Aipov, head of department at the Peace Operations Center, Kazakh Ministry of Defense.

Aipov’s military career is closely tied to the name of the legendary general. He is one of the first graduates of the Zhas Ulan national school, which is named after Nurmagambetov. According to the officer, the Hero’s courage, bravery, and feats have always been an inspiration for him.

«In 1999, the Zhas Ulan military school named after Nurmagambetov was opened in Astana, marking the first of its kind in Kazakhstan. The names of such heroes, who fought for their homeland, should remain in the memory of the people for centuries. I believe this is the only way to pay tribute to their courage and selfless service for the good of the people and the country,» Aipov added.
