Kazakh government discusses developments in manufacturing industry

Mechanical engineering in Kazakhstan is experiencing steady growth. Since the beginning of the year, the performance indicators of this sector of the manufacturing industry have grown by 28 percent. The country is actively opening new automotive production facilities. This was reported by Kazakh Minister of Industry and Construction Kanat Sharlapayev at the Government’s meeting. He outlined key projects that are scheduled to be launched by the end of 2023. Among them is the production facility in the Kostanai region, where up to 30,000 units of new car models will be manufactured per year. There are also plans to open a modern plant for special coke production with a capacity of 400,000 tonnes in December. Additionally, Sharlapayev discussed the implementation of projects located in special economic and industrial zones.

“As of today, a total of 325 projects worth 2.8 trillion tenge have been implemented within the Special Economic Zones (SEZ), creating 24,000 permanent jobs. In the territories of industrial zones, 226 projects worth around 900 billion tenge have been launched, leading to the creation of 12,000 permanent jobs. Furthermore, an additional 346 projects are currently under implementation,” Sharlapayev said.

Additionally, according to the minister, Kazakhstan plans to build small industrial zones for small and medium-sized businesses. As part of the project, entrepreneurs will be offered soft loans for the construction of ready-to-use industrial facilities.  Such facilities are intended to be established in all regions of the country, exclusively for the production of manufacturing goods. Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov highlighted that this sector is fundamental to the industrial development of any state.

“Based on the results of the first eight months of the current year, the volume of manufacturing production increased by more than four percent. Investments in fixed assets reached around 810 billion tenge. Metallurgical industry, mechanical engineering, and food production account for the largest share in manufacturing. As part of the Industrialization Map, there are plans to commission 170 projects this year across sectors, including the food industry, construction, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, and others,” said Smailov.
