The household items in the national style and traditional technologies. A craftsman from the Karagandy region Akzhol Zhurtybai makes eco-friendly wooden dinnerware and furniture, decorating them with Kazakh ornaments. The 26-year-old master admitted that he inherited his talent from his grandfather. Although Akzhol is a mine foreman by profession and has a university degree, he chooses to do what he likes.
“Now the machine allows to make a round meat platter in 3-4 hours, while the handmade work would take two or three days. I use a willow and a birch for dinnerware, and a pine for furniture. You can’t make dinnerware from conifer trees, because they exude resin. I make tubs from birch wood as well,” said Zhurtybai.
For example, there is a whole technology for making the kumys whipping tub, which affects the quality of the drink. The container is made of solid wood and slats fastened with rings. And to remove the smell of feed in mare's milk, the container is treated with birch bark or mint smoke.
“His items are not only beautiful, but also of high quality. For example, I have personally used a 70-liter tub made by Akzhol on the farm. I am glad that we have such craftsmen who make Kazakh traditional household items,” Kuatbek Baizhumanov, resident of Karkaraly city, said.
The young master plans to launch his own brand. His dream is to open a shop selling national items in the future.
