Kazakhstan presidential nomination process has been closed. A total of 12 candidates nominated by national public associations submitted their documents to the Central Election Commission. To date, only five of them have been approved so far, including incumbent president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev nominated by the People’s Coalition, head of the Astana branch of the National Social Democratic Party Nurlan Auyesbayev, Meiram Kazhyken by the Amanat Trade Unions Commonwealth, Zhiguli Dairabayev by the Auyl party and also Karakat Abden by the National Alliance of Professional Social Workers. Seven more candidates are under consideration, according to the Commission.
“The verification of the candidates’ compliance with the legal requirements continues. The work is well underway. Some presidential candidates have already passed the Kazakh language proficiency test. Exams are still going on. We are heading in the right direction,” Secretary of the Kazakh Central Election Commission Mukhtar Yerman said.
