Tokayev received President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation Vladislav
Tretiak. During the meeting, issues of the development of this sports
discipline in CIS countries were discussed. The Head of State noted that the
participation of domestic teams, including the Astana’s Barys Hockey Club, in
the Continental Hockey League championship and other tournaments, as well as
the successful performance of the national team at world championships have a
positive impact on the popularization of this sport in the country. Thus, the
number of hockey schools, youth teams and competitions has increased in
Kazakhstan. Tretiak noted the high level of organization of Qazaqstan Hockey
Open 2024 international tournament, pointing out that the development of the sport
has become possible thanks to the state support.
