Today on September 1, Kazakhstan celebrates Knowledge Day. This academic year, more than 380,000 Kazakh children will go to school for the first time. 70 percent of them will be taught in the Kazakh language. According to the Kazakh Ministry of Education, the highest number of first-graders was recorded in Almaty city and the Turkistan and Almaty regions. A record number of graduates, namely 188,900 students, will also be enrolled in the new academic year, the relevant ministry states. Kazakh school students will study in 7,700 educational institutions with over 340,000 teachers. In total, the academic year has begun today for nearly four million school students. As noted by Kazakh Minister of Education Gani Beisembayev, 154 new schools for 132,000 students will open their doors in the coming academic year.
