Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed condolences
to the families and loved ones of the miners who lost their lives in the Ulytau
region. He instructed the government to thoroughly investigate the causes of
the tragedy. Relevant agencies and the regional administration have been tasked
with providing all necessary assistance to the miners’ families. The incident
occurred yesterday at the Zhomart mine of the Kazakhmys Corporation. Due to a
rock collapse, seven people were trapped under the rubble and lost their lives.
On the Prime Minister’s instructions, a special commission has been formed to
investigate the causes of the accident. The commission is headed by Deputy
Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev.
